Selena was born in America, but even though her native language is English she performs her songs in Spanish. Selena was raised by an extremely loving and happy family of Hispanic descent. Her father, Abraham Quintanilla, was also a musician, although he did not have more recognition than his daughter. Selena was gifted and her family did their best to ensure she was able to develop the talent. Selena began performing in her father's restaurants alongside her brothers once her family members discovered her talent. The group she created with her brothers was referred to under the moniker Selena and the Dinos. They became famous after recording their debut single My first recording in 1984.
